Moving with Pets
Planning to bring along your pets while you are considering a permanent move to another country like Singapore? Here are some useful pointers for you:
Checkout with Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) Guidelines
AVA has laid out specific guidelines on transportation of pets (cats and dogs) into Singapore. So you may want to check out the AVA website on this.
Things to look out for in transshipping pets across the border:
- Import permit required
- Veterinary and quarantine requirements – reserve quarantine space with AVA
- Pets vaccination requirements
- Dog breeds disallowed – American pit bull terriers, American bull dogs, Akita, Tosa, etc
- No of dogs and size of dogs – the authority has guidelines on this depending if you are staying in a landed home, private apartment or HDB. For instance, if you are staying in a HDB, only 1 dog of an approved small breed is permitted; whereas for private residence you may keep up to 3 dogs
Do consult your carrier airline on transportation requirements for your pet. Each airline has its own specific requirements for pet arrangements on the flight. You would need to check and confirm with the relevant airlines on their unique requirement. For a comprehensive understanding of these guidelines, you may refer to PetTravel.com.
It isn’t an easy task to have your pets coming along in your move to another country. You would need to be sure that it does not create unnecessary attention to yourself while bringing them onboard the plane. Hence, it is good to weigh the pros and cons of travelling with your pets or to have them send over in advance.
Good luck!
